The original ink signature, Reuben Evans & Richard Osgood Made This Draw 1768 makes this the first example of furniture known to us made by Reuben Evans (1741-1785) and Richard Osgood (1721-1780), cabinetmakers working in Salisbury, Massachusetts, who were related by marriage.

It descended in the Dudley family of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
